Can I say a huge thank you to all the parents, staff and ‘friends’ of St Silas who donated clothes and toys to the ‘Give Away’ event. It was a huge success, with items that were no longer needed by some being given new homes where they will be put to good use by others.
By such acts of kindness, we will make our community stronger. Thank you again.
This week, our lovely Year 6 children have begun being ‘book buddies’ for some of the younger children. At lunch time, Year 1 and Year 2 children have the opportunity to meet up with their book buddy and be read to, as well as doing some reading themselves. As you can see, the younger children are loving the reading time, and our older children are relishing the responsibility. Long may it continue!
We were thrilled to have a visit from the best-selling author Piers Torday. He did full sessions with Years 4,5 and 6 and read a story to Year 2. Some children also ate lunch with him, and visited the library with him. We are also thrilled to announce that Piers will work with school all year as our Patron of Reading!

Best-selling children’s author Laura Ellen Anderson visited school today. Her brand new book – Amelia Fang and the Barbaric Ball – went on sale yesterday. She spoke to children in Y2, Y3, Y4 and Y5 about her inspirations and what it’s like to be an author. We also created some repugnant recipes of our own.
Have a look at the pictures to see how much we enjoyed Laura’s visit…
We’ve decided to make lunchtimes even better at school.
The yard is now split into different zones, and there are loads of different activities for the children to join in with: skipping, basketball, dancing, drama, football, cricket, circle games, parachute activities, creative play and construction, the quiet zone and lots more.
The smiling faces tell their own story…
